Has anyone heard about WillExcel Tesol they promise to pay students to do a Tesol Diploma, provide free mandarin training and accomodation. It sounds very good and you do get 500 hours teaching practise over six months. The content looks professional to.

I want to know if anyone has done it and what they thought of it and how widely is it accepted outside of China. Also would schools and colleges expecting a British council accreditation accept this. the content and instruction looks better than a CELTA or Trinity

I write this in case it may come under a scam but i don't know.

the link is www.willexcel.com/TESOL/main.htm

That's not 500 hours teaching practice; that's 500 hours work.

The contract is for a job. You work 500 hours in 6 months (=20 hrs/wk), the company underpay you and throw in a free apartment (all Chinese jobs offer a free apartment), free mandarin lessons (worthless) and a nonsense 'diploma'.

From what I've read, those who have actually gone through the program are quite satisfied with it. Those who seem to be hell-bent on knocking it down haven't had any first-hand experience with them and are judging based on their skepticism.

I would be amazed if this qualification / certificate is accepted outside China. So from that perspective, its probably a waste of time. I would be interested to see what the old hands who post here, and employ people in a variety of countries and environments would say.

I don't know that it's a scam, but from my (European) perspective, it would be very unlikely that most employers here would accept it.

I took this course way back in 2007, and then did a long stint in China. I've written extensively about this group on this forum, as have other participants. You can likely find other graduate feedback in the China forum.

If you want first-hand feedback, they have a YouTube testimonials page here: http://www.youtube.com/user/WillExcelTESOL

As well as an extensive Picasa Album page with tons of pictures here: http://picasaweb.google.com/WillExcelTESOL

If it was a scam, it'd have to be an EXTREMELY elaborate one. Check the testimonials, feedback, ask for references, etc. These guys are great, you won't be disappointed.

I taught in China for almost 2 years with this qualification at two different schools. I had to return to Ireland for a bit (my father is American, mother Irish) as my mother fell ill. I taught ESL in Ireland with this qualification after receiving accreditation from the ACELS, their website here: http://www.acels.ie/

So, it is accepted in the EU. Also, when in China, I applied to jobs in Korea and Japan, and received offers there, so it is accepted there as well. After my mother passed (early this year) I moved to Spain where I'm currently teaching in a small city outside of Madrid.

Glad Ireland accept it. It means UK should to. Was the accreditation for your diploma?

how does accreditation work exactly? Looked at the ACELS site.

Don't know much about this Chinese diploma, but I had a little brush with ACELS in Ireland and they didn't impress me much, to be honest. Didn't know what a DELTA was, seemingly. And I doubt that the UK would accept anything just because Ireland does
