I agree with Justin on the Ms. issue. Marital status isn't automatically anyone's business.
Further, I hate the pronunciation of Mrs. (missus/mizzis). It all sounds way to 1950 and beehive hairdos to me. |

'To' for 'too'. A peeve because I'm all to prone too to make that typo to! |

Marital status may not be anyone's business - true. But why stop there? Why specify gender ? Why not have a unisex title that can be used for males or females? Or social status? How about 'товарищ'? What do you say comrades? |

How do people feel about the words 'husband' and 'groom'? They all had, and perhaps still have a distinct connotation of agricultural mastery and dominance. Another colleague of mine even jokingly suggested a false etymology linking 'bridal' to 'bridle'. Essential for a 'stable' relationship, he said. (Not my words! Please don't roast me alive.)
But seriously. Should we erase all those words and call it language change? And replace them with what? Better/other halves? Or halfs? Sounds like peevy material to me... |

Of course not! Keep your peevometer from wearing out!
I'll feel free to keep using the words that best express what I want to say, though- and if that happens to include some that peeve you...well, that makes it more fun!
Best,
Comrade Justin |

I prefer the term 'carbon-unit' myself. |

How many of us in the Arab world have seen 'tow' for the number '2'. Ouch !!
Hope it's not just me.

'Anti-'. Great little prefix.
But I have to confess to disliking the 'anteye' pronunciation. Which leads me to 'missile', which is very peevishly pronounced the same way as 'missal'. Can you imagine how a phrase like 'anti-ballistic missile treaty' could peeve a delicate creature like myself? |

Ms. is a perfectly good title. I'm married but I didn't take my husband's last name. I'm not Mrs. anyone. Ms. works just fine for me, and has for several decades now. The "bitter feminists" argument is old hat.
