|
|
Would like anyone in a country that allows people to open bank accounts with only a tourist visa to give me a shout.
If I remember correctly back in 2000 it was possible to do such a thing in S.Korea, but every other nation I've passed through has restrictions on foreigners getting bank accounts without work papers.
If you post from a country that has such relaxed banking rules, please also gave information as to the minimum amount required to open an account and also if it's possible to get an ATM card that can be used globally (PLUS,CIRRUS and so on on the back)-Since in SK the ATM cards were useless outside the hermit kingdom.
Regards

I've heard that you can do it in the UK, the RBS and the BAnk of Scotland do, but you have to be there in person to open the account. |

I am looking at this same problem as we speak. You do have the usual spots: Switzerland and the Cayman Islands but an EFL salary would hardly be enough to open an account there.
I remember reading that anybody should be able to open a bank account in HK but I am not sure. Maybe one of the HK folks or good ol' Roger can confirm... |

@Buddhabelly, Why? Have you committed some horrendous crime that stops you from obtaining a work permit in every country in the world? |

Sensible people keep their money in gold coins in a box buried in their back garden.
We live in troubled times. If you doubt that just look around.

I opened an account in Hong Kong without a work permit. I needed my passport and one other piece of photo ID (I used my drivers license from home). Don't try and open one with HSBC as they need all kinds of documents including a letter of introduction from a current Hong Kong HSBC account holder. My card has the PLUS symbol on it. |

Actually the money laundering laws now make opening a new account difficult at times and there have been quite a number of letters I've noticed in the newspapers' money pages regarding this issue.
You'd probably need a fixed address, utility bill, pay slips and the like. I suggest more research if that's the way you want to go. I can personally recommend the internet bank Smile which you'd be able to access worldwide. |

To dmb: is my so-called personal life any of your darn business?
To nolefan: don't you think it's time for Bobby B. to retire to an old folks home?
To countryclub: which bank in HK did you use?
To SueH: can you give me the smile link? |

Dear nolefan,
Perhaps it can all be blamed on Christina Rix
I guess the good thing about papa Bowden is that he is the only coach out there who has a bunch of sons with good coaching records he can choose as heirs to the throne.
Let's you reply be the last on this sub-topic as there are hordes of Brits, Aussies and Canucks on this forum that have no idea what we are writing about |
