Is Orbit satellite internet still available in Saudi?
I've read a reference to a merger with Showtime, and visiting their website I can find no link to an internet option. |

So, do you know the answer to his question? Orbit used to offer sat internet... since the merger, have they stopped?

Try Orbit Showtime, www.osnetwork.com and you can get English football, Eastenders and all the Hollywood dross you can stomach. |

That's the website I mentioned in my original post - there's no mention of an internet provision service there. |

I have an orbit satellite package; it's more expensive than STC, but the service is pretty good. They do always answer the phone, and the operators speak excellent English. If you have problems, like I had after the recent storm, they send a technician out the following day. The download package I have is low, and you need to buy a wireless router for extra computers. ( we've got 3 old STC routers hanging around redundantly). All in all, I'm happy with orbit internet, but we don't have a TV so I can't answer for that. |

I just signed up for the Orbitz Showtime Movies Plus Package. They have excellent customer service in excellent English. It appears that their customer service center is in Dubai, at least that is what the woman told me when she called to confirm the installation.
I am not sure about Orbitz Internet. However, I will say that it is better to get STC DSL (hard wire) instead of WiMax wireless routers. It's much faster at about the same cost. |

Yes...I briefly worked for a guy called Peter W (Mod edit) in Abu Dhabi last year, but checking on this chancer's other posts, it's definitely not him.
I was the OP on this topic, and I finally caved in and went for Mobily's superfast 21MBps Connect Turbo service with unlimited downloads. I can state in all confidence that it is, without a doubt, the crappiest, least reliable internet connection I have had to suffer since the bad old days of dial-up when I first started surfing the web back in 1996. Actually, at least dial-up would be consistent! It's probably just a weak signal in my area, but of course Mobily don't advertise these facts and figures prior to sale...
I speak as someone who flew to Sharjah from KSA last weekend in order to save a full SR6000 (or 70%) on spare parts for my car against the price in Dammam. Does anyone else detect a theme emerging here? |

In Riyadh, I had set up Orbit Satellite for TV as well as another dish for Orbit Sat Net last year. Although have no other company to compare it to; the Orbit service was 'acceptable'.
However upon my return from summer vacation, I discovered someone had gone up to the roof and ripped off my Orbit Sat Net dish...walked right in and out past security. I had to replace it on my own riyal...suspect it may have been security that did it...but will never know for sure...so much for apartment security! They get paid to sleep in a chair. so I guess should not be so suprised! Just more grief! |
