You guys are so busy with the chitchat that youve missed the core of my question....which is....HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU WORK OVER AND ABOVE YOUR TEACHING HOURS? |

Unless there's a workshop or meeting, I probably only work about 2 hours a day on top of teaching. Mostly this time is spent planning and preparing my own lessons. |

Hello Outward bound
The answer to your question can be answered in more ways than one ,but to simlify it lets just say you aim to do the least for the most, catch my drift . You are doing the work of at least three people in most places in some cases more ,as you are the only one of your type there your boss should be looking after you and encouraging you to stay ,however, it seems the more you do the more you are expected to do ,don't expect rewards that doesn't happen ,at least not in my experience . Take the advice you have been given ,leave at your earliest convenience. |

Hi FGT
I would have thought that the thus far unanswered thread may have given you an extra large clue . |

Wasn't that the core question? To which there were some replies.
The answers were "no" |

Hi Vre
Not wishing to highjack this ever so interesting thread that the op has forgotten about, I was looking for some answers to another thread about a new University in Izmir. FGT I think was trying to be obtuse but I felt a reference to the said other thread would give her a nudge but she apparently has also forgotten (its that time of year folks ) that she knows people who work there ,I would just like a little feedback before I take a deep breath and apply for a job there,it seems anyone and their dog can work there from what I have heard through others . My basic question is ;Is it an O.K place to work in or do the rumours one hears have any substance ? |

"I think I will go home", says vre.
The scary thing about this line of work is that you cannot go home. You have changed and your "home" has changed. The home you left exists now only in your memory.
Welcome to the cruel world of EFL, full of bitter old men - and women ! |

I don't know if I mentioned it but I'll be 'home'in a couple of days. I just spoke to the bitter woman of my life and as long as I remember perfume from Duty Free she will have manti on the table when I arrive.

There was a post a while back about a new university opening in Ankara. I have no information about it.
There are, I think, 4 (or 5, if you include the Yuksek Teknoloji place) universities in Izmir, none of these are what I would call "new". I have contacts with them all, but not all my contacts are EFL teachers. What do you want to know? There are others on this forum who work in that environment who are in a better position to comment. You could try a search of this forum, I'm sure you'll find references.
As to my gender, I'm not revealing anything! Not until we all know one another a bit better! (I'm enjoying the guessing games)! |
