Hello y'all!

My wife and I searched and searched for someone who could attest our documents for us in the US because we had already started out jobs here in the UAE.

We finally found someone who could do it for us and he had our documents attested and returned to us in 11 days.

Better to put it in public for the benefit of others, i guess. What attestation? Notary public? YOu mean documents notarized? The only docs I had "attested" were from the State Department, with ribbons and seals and whatnot, since the UAE gov't required that for family entry visas.

Or do you mean you found an agent to submit the docs to the State Department for you?

SnB... the process has changed for the UAE since we were there, it is more similar to the procedure in Oman now. Some places even require the birth certificate to be certified too. (which is ridiculous as the US requires the birth certificate to get our passports) We just normally use the word "certified" rather than "attested" in the Gulf.

Bookcrazy... I suspect that your previous post looked like an advertisement and that is why it has disappeared.

I understood that there are also companies in the UAE that can do for a similarly high price, but I don't know their names. I think the employer or the Ministry should be providing this information.

Yep, my last post had all his contact information and pricing and that is why it got pulled. Do an Internet search for Roca Services and his is the first company that comes up.

What he did for my wife and I was to take a scanned copy of our university degrees, get them notarized/certified by the US State Department, and then have them attested/certified by the UAE Embassy in Washington D.C, and he then sent them back to my wife and I here in the UAE in less than 2 weeks.

Of course, you realize that if you had been in the Washington DC area, you could have done it yourself in about 1.5-2 hours over a couple days (the State Dept keeps it overnight) and it would probably have cost you less than $50 including transport (taxi, subway, or parking your car).

Too bad I don't still live in that area... it would be a good part-time business to set up. It certainly doesn't need a lawyer.

It's also worth noting that this process wouldn't work for birth certificate or marriage license attestation. For that, you still have to have a certified copy from the county, attestation by the state, attestation by Hillary Clinton, attestation by the US embassy in Abu Dhabi, attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We actually joked that it would be easier to just get remarried in the UAE...we have since discovered that one must have a letter of permission from the father or male guardian of the bride that goes through all of the aforementioned steps to get legally married here - yes, even if you are non-Muslim, US citizens. I met a 30-ish year olf American at the embassy who was trying to get a letter from her daddy attested so she could get married on Jumeira Beach...

I wonder what one does if one's daddy is dead... and one has no maternal nor fraternal uncles... and no sons.

I guess one would have to just live in sin!!
