It depends on your lifestyle, honestly.

Teaching what subject?

If I may ask, what are your qualifications?

My friend has an MA in EFL on-site from Australia and 10+ years experience, and is at one of the top Unis here and he makes nowhere near $3000 on a full-time contract.

is 35K for a uni and pretty much the same for an international school about reasonable?

shibain,

Please re-read my post above.

No, you will not get 35K US at a Uni or an International school in Vietnam.

Much lower

Really how come my fiance earns a lot more at International School as do many friends of mine. They get paid on an increasing scale each year and trust me it exceeds $35 with ease. PGCE qualified and the like get good salaries here, $800 housing, flights etc

Concur with 'surreycouple', V-star not in the nicest area though and you can get the same deal in PMH (phu My Hung) if you try. Saving 2-3k a month is a lot and I guess if you are a couple who both have 'real' jobs (not language mill) and like cooking and DVDs then yes it's possible. However if you're both single and 'youngish' and like to party, it's not going to be easy. Some of us do indeed earn 3k+ a month but we ARE in the minority. Best thing to do is stay in a hotel for the first month (there are many reasonably priced in PMH) and walk around visiting the realtors of which there are very many, location, location, location is very very true here and though you might find bargains '7 minutes' from PMH that 7 minutes can often become 15-20 in Saigon traffic and if it's D7 you want, only PMH is worth it - the lifestyle is very nice here and 'near' PMH just isn't the same.

Then, name the school.

I know for sure that no teahcer, with an MA, teacher's license in home-country, or PGCE is getting 35K per year at IS, SSIS, BIS, ACG, Singapore International school.

Yes, housing is included, and so are flight stipends IF, one is hired overseas, and the competition is very fierce these days because there are so many unemployed teachers in the USA, now.
