Hi!

I'm planning on doing a CELTA and finding a teaching position in Latin America (most probably in Ecuador, through Southern Cross). I'm a 23 year old postgraduate from the UK, and after browsing these forums I am half excited and half terrified by the possibilities! I have a few questions, any advice would be gratefully received!

1) Does anyone have experience of Southern Cross, and in particular their involvement in job placement? If not...

2) How difficult is it for a newly qualified teacher to find work in Ecuador? What factors influence the job search? If it helps, I am aiming to start the CELTA in approx 6 months, and while I am interested in teaching in Quito I'm open to options.

I ask the above questions because I am currently saving up for my venture and wondering how much to put back as a buffer between the course and finding work (including finding accommodation!). Can anyone shed light on these matters?

I'm sorry that this is so broad! If anyone has any words about their time teaching/living in Ecuador I would love to hear them!

Thanks,

Tom

No words of wisdom, but we will be leaving the UK at the end of July to do almost exactly the same thing. Starting with the August Southern Cross course, and then hopefully finding relatively long term teaching positions in Ecuador.

Give me a nudge in a few months and I'll let you know how it's going.
