These comments refer mainly to the Gulf... not as much of an issue in Egypt because unless your hair is black, they consider you a blond. (really!! I would always hear them refer to what I would call a brunette as a blond... all is relative... )

Correct. Even southern Italians call brown-haired Americans or northerners "blondie." A cinematic example of that was The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in which Tuco the Bandit keeps calling Clint Eastwood "Hey Blondie!" |
