Would anyone be able to tell me about the teaching conditions and living conditions at the RAK campus of the IAT?
I've read most other posts, but there are 5 separate campuses and from what I've read RAK is very different (living wise) than AD.
I've been offered a tenative 22k offer (13k salary, 9k living). Again, from what I've read it seems like a very good offer. Could some educate me if I'm wrong or confirm if I'm correct?
Also, how far would 9k/mo go towards living in RAK? Studio, 1 bedroom, 2... location?
Thanks ahead of time for any information.

| I take it you mean Dh9,000 per month living expenses. Yes, it's quite good in that case. When I left RAK in 2007 you could get a large and decent apartment for something like Dh 30,000 per year (2500 monthly, though nobody pays monthly; it's all upfront yearly). Subtract that from your monthly cash income and you live on 19,500. Excellent. I'd advise not to give in to temptation and live in a big villa like most of the HCT people do. |

My wife and I live in RAK. We don't teach for IAT (in fact, I don't know anyone who does off the top of my head). So we can't answer about what the working conditions are like, but we can tell you about RAK.

That is a VERY good offer. Most HCT teachers are on about 15 to 16K a month and housing is paid for. The housing allowawance is about 5K to 7K a month if they take the housing allowance instead of staying in the HCT system.
So yes... it is a very good offer. Now, depending on your family size, it could be a very very good offer (ie you are single), or it can be a good offer if you need a very large place.

That is 108K a year... with the market at what it is now... that could get you a VERY nice 3 to 4 bedroom villa with a nice yard (and you would have cash left over).
Like I said, HCT pays 60 to 70K for housing for their teachers and they get very large accomadations. You can get a very nice place for that amount, and still have cash left over.
Location? That depends on what you want and how long of a drive you want to have.
There are some locations you dont' want to live in Nakheel and parts of Khozam, but the rest is pretty good. You can get in compounds with other expats, or you can find places that are independent.
The only real issue with housing is that many of the new villas/flats do not have power and are being powered by diesel generators.
I know people who have families who are paying 40K in nice neighborhoods.
If you have any questions, please PM me or post them here. |
