Was just contacted by DUFE (Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in Dalian) about a position. Anyone have recent specific info on the management/students/working conditions they care to share? |

I applied there last year and they phoned for an interview. Seems fine. The guy was actually quite human. I was 60 so they couldn't hire me -- kind of unkind not to actually read that in my resume, but that' not unusual. Inter esting to talk to someone from a classy school who said his students c ouldn't write a complete sentence, either. (I teach writing at middle-level unis.)
Seems like it would be fine. Better money in less appealing spots, btw. Sorry I can't remember more. Oh: another ft said he thought it was the best. I'd have gone, etc. Good luck.
Just saw your post; hope this helps someone.

Pay at DUFE is comparable to that of other universities in Dalian, right around 4,000 a month I would imagine. But the one-bedroom apartments with office are great, as is the location a short trolley or bus ride from the central business district. Management is relatively straight, and the school should cover health care at a local hospital. The students are generally quite good, as well.
There is an expectation that you will do your job in a professional manner, although the actual teaching methods and practices are no more rigorous than at other universities in China. They seem to favor over-educated loawei. The school's reputation, and limited teaching hours, make it fairly easy to moonlight at a language school in the evening or on weekends for as much as 150 per hour. |

I taught nearby at DMU a few years back. Have been into the DUFE teachers accom and it is good. If you look at the apartments of DMU and DUT for compaison, DUFE is paradise
They must have tightened up on age as the FTs I met there were 60+ by far. |

Some of their older teachers may have been there for years (though they would likely be long gone by now), and would therefore have been grandfathered in. The authorities are apt to be far stricter for new hires, often insisting on compliance with the latest regulations. |

I teach down the road and a few of the teachers here are moving to DUFE next semester. The apartments are definitely above average for a uni apartment, if not the best I have seen.
Location is good and I know one of the foreigners who has been there for years and may even be supervising now, she is honest and organized.
DUFE is one of the better uni jobs it would seem. |
