I actually wanted to pm the poster of the chiang mai celta boot camp thread but im a new member and have to post five times before i can pm. strange requirement... anyway, i want to hear from people that have done the CELTA course in thailand. what were your experiences? is it really hard? is there a high possiblity of not passing? i really want to do it but im very nervous to spend the money and everyone keeps saying how hard it is. i also really want to hear from the poster who had a bad experience at the chiang mai boot camp which is the one i was planning on going to. thanks for the info!

A good CELTA or TESOL is 'hard' anywhere, and rightly so.

You have four weeks (about 20 days) to progress from 'nothing' to a 'teacher'. This involves everything from learning grammar to actual teaching practice. When I did the CELTA 20 years ago, one person failed in the class of 20.

Unfortunately, some of the weaker courses here have ads or websites which promise scubadiving and pinacoladas.

The IH bootcamp at CMai has good reports because you work hard there, and the camp is well away from the city and its pleasures.

If you start out with the attitude of wanting a cushy life, you may be in for a rude shock. You should welcome the 12-hour days and should try to learn as much as possible.

Hello eddy! Thanks for the reply. I'm not afraid of working hard. I have two university degrees and did really well on the GMAT exam. I guess I just tend to psyche myself out when the possibility of failure is mentioned. Especially when that much money is involved....
