Hi everyone,
I've decided to bite the bullet and post my resume on Dave's, and I have a few brief questions. First, when posting a resume on Dave's without applying for a specific job, should I include a cover letter, or just an "objective" statement at the top? A cover letter would have to be pretty non-specific without a specific company or country in mind, but maybe this is how it should be.
...which leads to my second question: I am pretty open regarding which country I want to teach in; I'd seriously consider working in probably 15+ countries, plus I'd be open to working in Europe for virtually no money if someone would provide room and board. [For a brief overview of my situation, see my previous post: http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=80682&highlight= ] It is considered a serious no-no when writing a resume for a "normal" job in business or whatever to show a lack of focus; is this the case in the ESL world as well, or do companies accept that people can be interested in a lot of different places? In other words, do I need to choose 2 or 3 countries to focus my search on, or is it ok to say, basically, "I am willing to work in any of the following 15 countries:..."?
Thanks! |

I would just be brief and to the point. State the country, age, group that you want to teach and a list of your quals and exp. Then you can contact the places that you like. Just a heads up, you'll often get recruiters from China email you even if you have no desire to work there.
HOnestly, having been a person looking for teachers, I couldn't be bothered to look at CV forums. I simply posted and advert and waited for THEM to emai ME.
List the continents you want to teach in. Or the areas. Such as "looking to teach in Asia" or "looking to teach in SE asia", etc
Not lack of focus: it's flexibility |
