Depends which city you are in. Cos in Jeddah, a lot of muslims sit outside during prayer time and smoke, drink a cuppa... |

Well, one common strategy is to duck into the nearest restaurant before they lock the doors and pull the blinds. Otherwise, you stand sweating on a putrid sidewalk, watching a filthy cat dying under a dumpster. |

Head for a quality hotel. Their coffeeshop and/or restaurant will not close. I recommend the Al Hammad Hotel in Emir Abdullah Street or the Nimran if in Khobar. |

The tip off that the original poster is not an English teacher is "your" ("if your a teacher").
However, the other strange thing is the phrase "caught" in public.
There is no "catching." Yes, there is a problem of what to do if you're out and about when everything's shutting down, but it's not like there's a round-up of non-Muslims who get escorted to some sort of holding tank for the duration. In fact, street life simply goes on -- taxis drive, people continue walking and talking on their mobile phones. You just don't have stores you can go into if you're in a conservative town like, say, Riyadh. But if you're in Egypt, mafi moshkela. |

No one expects us to be praying if we are western, but I am a woman which makes a difference. I usually check the internet to avoid being caught outside during prayer time... But you can't avoid it at the malls so I usually go to Starbucks or plan my dinner time around the prayer time... |
