|
|
Hi All
I have been lurking in this Vietnam forum for a couple of weeks now and I need a good estimate on some issues:
1. From what I have heard here, it is better to arrive in Vietnam and then look for a job. Currently I am applying online but I plan to follow this up with a live appearance. Is this the right approach?
2. If I arrive around the end of May, would it be possible to find a job?
3. How much money (lets put it in USD) do you think would I need to survive for about a month while Im going about the process of finding a job?
4. Thanks all for the invaluable info. that I pick up here!
Much Appreciated

1 - Yes. Then apply to all the schools that you can't apply to via the internet.
2 - May is perfect
3 - $500 is doable. $1000+ would be better. |

Hi Cyan,
Here are a few answers to your questions. These answers are from the perspective of someone that has never actually taught in Vietnam, but I have done copious amounts of research over the last several months...I am sure if I pass along some misinformation to you, someone will correct me.

Sounds logical to me.

Yes, you will. Click here for more info.

This question probably depends on your spending habits. For example, are you going to eat local food or dine at western restaurants? I would say you would need at least $500 to survive for a month, but you would probably be better off taking $1000 or more.
There is a new website called Mekong ESL that has a fairly active message board considering the site is new. You might be interested in checking out those resources if you haven't already done so.
I hope to see you in August when I head over to Vietnam myself! BTW, are you going to Saigon, Hanoi, or someplace else?
Cheers,
Kirk |

Hey
Thanks DaveJavu for the answers! My question over how much to survive on, ("$500 but rather $1000"), is the crucial one here. This question is based on me taking 1 month to find a job. I truly hope that 1 month to find a job is sufficient!
...and thanks James_T_Kirk for the resource. I am going to check it out right now.

I am going to HCMC/Saigon as I have picked up that there are more opportunities available. Hanoi seems to be smaller but really beautiful in terms of what I have read about it.
Good to you all
