This may be a long shot: Can anyone tell me anything about Yeditepe University on the Asian side of Istanbul? If not this school in particular, I would like to hear about living just outside of Istanbul. |

I don't know anyone who's worked there. Turkish people don't seem to have a very high opinion of it. I have been in private schools owned by the same owner and would assume that it is run on a shoestring.
As for living on the Asian side of Istanbul, pros and cons. If you are young and single it could be dull for you as it is rather far from the nightlife etc. The university is on the E5 highway and you can get to Kadıky pretty quickly from there. Kadıky is on the Asian side but has some bars and nightlife. Taksim on the European side, which offers much more entertainment is further away (more than half an hour, much more at peak times).
There are some big shopping malls within easy reach which have cinemas. The Bagdat Caddesi (the best known shopping area on the Asian side) is also in easy reach.
I don't know which neighbourhood you would be located in, but there are both nice and grotty areas close by.
The Asian side is generally more relaxing but it depends what your priorities are. |

I remember hearing negative things from a colleague of mine regarding teaching Prep English at Yeditepe, but after reading more about Turkish universities, it seems like the regular nastiness of classroom management.
As for living on the Asian side, it isn't bad at all. It is more affordable, not so congested and gives you a taste of the residential life. I only had a few times it took longer than 40 minutes to get to Taksim (I swear by the vapur). It does, however, lack the charm and romance of the European side. |

The owner you are talking about is an odious crook who has recently been implicated in the Ergenekon coup attempt. A friend of a friend who worked in prep had classes that were so bad they managed to knock a hole through the classroom wall. OK to live on the Asian side but the money and stress are going to make life very unpleasant. |
