What could this get me in INdonesia? Is it enough to get something decent? Clearly anywhere the best jobs require a CELTA or some other high-level certification. What could I get in Jakarta, and are photocopies of undergrad transcripts enough? I do have an original BA diploma, its my last one and prefer not to permanently surrender it. (cant get any more at the moment due 2 a financial aid dispute). |

What are u aiming for? language mill? nationaplus? "international" school, real international school...........
also, what kind of salary are u looking for. there was just a thread about who is saving money that might help answer some of your questions.
i think most language mills will accept u. u can probably get into a nationalplus school, but usually this requires networking, so u would probably have to spend some time at ef, direct english, tbi or language school first. |

With a BA and two years in Korea I imagine you could find something very decent in Indonesia. The standards there are currently not very high i.e. China 4 years ago. |

What have you been smoking? In China there are more (crap) jobs than applicants. Here it is the other way round these days. There was a time when you could get a (crap) job in Indo so long as you looked foreign and could stand up long enough to last out a class but those days are long dead. Even EF is (mostly) insisting on CELTA or TESOL. |

I'd like to get something a bit above what I have now, i.e. doing crowd control/being like a bouncer in a bar. The second I step into the classroom here, kids are throwing erasers and wadded-up papers at each other AND at me, cursing at each other AND at me, and jumping up on the desks and singing/cursing/punching/kicking each other.
Guys/gals, I'm 100%........SERIOUS.
Id like just a bit better of a deal, meaning how about maybe the students sit down, shut up, and pay decent attention throughout the class....
IS that a "language mill" as I see you call it in INdonesia? blah blah bloah language mill, cram school, hell-house, hagwon, etc. |

sounds dreadful.
indonesian students are generally wondeful. even when i taught in language schools, i rarely had any problem, even childrens classes. every now and then a collegue would have a more serious problem, but this was usually the result of either a severely spoiled child or personality confilict.
having said that, i havent taught at language mills for several years. maybe some forum members that are currently teaching at these schools can give u a more current and accturate description of the situation.
Have you considered taking the CTEFL or CELTA? they may contain some valuable lesson planning and classroom management techniques that might be useful in your future teaching jobs |

Typing fast man, sorry.
What can I get in INdonesia without a CCELTA and my current qualifications? |
