Chris and Co,

The comeback mullet is old news in the UK. It's been around with the 'lad generation' for the past 2 years or so, maybe even earlier if you look at London (which is where all fashion disasters start!). Ok, it's a little different in the sense that it's usually not quite as bulky and without the locks of curls it used to have. They usually dye the things too. And people ask me WHY I want to leave this madhouse?!!

I take no credit for the 80s list. It's a cut-and-paste job. Very Happy

My formative years were shaped entirely by the 1980s. Hell, I was born in 1980! It's thanks to He-man, Knight rider and The 'A' Team that I'm the man I am today...

It seems that the 80s were my entire youth. I graduated in 91. I barely remember the 70s (anything outside of the house, at least).

I wasnt cool enough to have an atari. Commodore 64? Had to make do with a vic-20, but we had them in school, back when I not only owned cassettes, but used them to store computer programs on. But be careful! Keep them away from the power source!

As for Smurfette, am I the only one who remembers that she was originally created by Gargamel in an evil (I thought of using nefarious but I wasnt sure if Id get it right, it not being part of my active vocabulary) plot to destroy the all male tranquility of Smurf village? She had black hair and caused all sorts of trouble until she realized that she was being used as a pawn of evil and repudiated her maker, being transformed by some process into the smooth voiced blond we know her as today, and finding acceptance.

I had a Spectrum 128k - the one with the integrated tape deck! I still remember pulling my hair out/punching walls/screaming with rage when I'd spend 30 minutes loading a game on my tape deck only to find that Side B did not load properly!

I wonder if any of you were lucky enough to own the Speccy 48k though?! Crap as hell, but some of the games were hugely playable and addictive.

I heard recently that there is a Transformers film in the works. Now that the technology can keep up, it should be interesting. My younger brother was into the "robots in disguise." I'm a bit past them, though I'm familiar enough.

He-man was another show after my time. There is an updated animated show that I ran across recently.

The ultimate irony of this post is that the original poster is trying to heavily flame the '80s, yet his avatar is one of the most recognizable Western cultural icons of that decade.

Ah, hypocrisy lives. Wink

I LOVED the '80s!!! That was the greatest decade! Some of my favorites:

Music:
Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Duran Duran, Boy George, George Michaels, Madonna, Prince, Bon Jovi, LL Cool J

TV:
Golden Girls, Family Ties, The Cosby Show (how could you not love it?),Dallas, Taxi, Cheers ... I know that I am forgetting some others

The only bad thing about the '80s was fashion.

Dear fat_chris,
Hey, "Cheers" and "Taxi" were (and still are, on reruns) pretty darn good.
Regards,
John

Dear John,

Taxi good, Cheers bad. Actually, I think Taxi was from the late '70s.

Sincerely,

Dear fat_chris,
You're right about "Taxi"; it began in '78:

http://www.geocities.com/tellytyme/taxi.html

"Cheers" showed from 1982 to 1993.

But you didn't/don't like "Cheers"? Who can forget Norm -

Sam: A little early for a beer, isn't it?
Norm: So float a corn flake in it.

or Clifford Clavin, Woody, Carla and Dr. Frazier Crane? OK, I wasn't all that crazy about the "leads", but the second bananas were - in my opinion - first-rate.

Regards,
John
