Unannounced observations are completely unacceptable. |

Hah! I had 4...count m 4 observations in a two week period! This happened most recently at a school that will remain unnamed until the "bye-bye" money is in hand. Three announced and one unannounced.
A few years ago, I had two announced "nannounced" obvs. The most unprofessional atmosphere I've ever endured!
As I told my employer...if you have to "bserve" me this much...then maybe you should jes'give me a pink slip...

Dear NCTBA,
Hmm, maybe you should sell tickets.
I was observed just yesterday by the new Coordinator of the ESL Department here. But hey, I got "notice" - about a minutes' worth, anyway. She came up t me on the break and asked" if she could "sit in."
I told her "Sure." (How many would have answered "No way?")
Funnily enough, she got to witness about five minutes worth of class. Then a guy popped in and said, "We have to evacuate the classrooms; the construction workers hit a gas line."
Kind of poetic justice in a way, I mean, they didn't give the coordinator much "notice," either.
Regards,
John |

Early in my tefl career I had a 4 second observation to determine how experienced I was - and therefore, what I should be paid. The lower rate, not surprisingly. I've also had a window observation of about 1 minute, but by this stage I was able to tell my 'observer' the flaws in her observation techniques.
I've mostly avoided these experiences since then. A recent interview for a job in the ME reminded me of what's possible though.
John - Poetic justice, and funny. |
