Hi,
I have just been offered a job working as an English teacher in a large company with two branches, one in Fuling and the other in Longgang. They will pay for flights, offer shared accomodation, free meals available in canteen and 1000 dollars per month. All travel between branches is also paid for. I am not familar with either of these areas and wanted to know what they were like and how the rate of pay and conditions compares to a standard English school in China. I will be teaching 5 hours per day Tuesday to Saturday. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I want to spend at least a year in China, would this be better than working for an actual English school?
Thanks |

If it's the same Fuling that Peter Hessler lived in, then you can read all about it in his book River Town! |

Yeah, I guess I could pick it up, he was in the peace corps and taught English right? Was hoping to find a quicker response! |

Heh, sorry that I couldn't tell you about it firsthand - Shanghai was where I was at (though I once was offered a managery-type position in Chongqing).
Hessler's book is pretty good, but like a river a bit meandering sometimes (uneventful, even!) in its perspective and detail, so it could take a while to finish. I started reading it a year or two ago, and am still only about halfway through! |
