Clothes are available in all sizes for both men and women. Marks and Spencer and Debenhams both carry a range of sizes and even have separate women's departments for larger-sized women. Evan's (a UK-based store, similar to Lane Bryant in the States) has an outlet in almost every mall.
The best part, though, is that women who wear hard-to-find sizes have the option of having their clothing tailor-made at very reasonable prices. Take along catalogues with pictures of things you like. The Indian/Pakistani tailors can make anything from just a picture. It will fit perfectly, and cost half of what you would pay at a retail outlet.
Finding shoes in larger sizes is a bigger problem. You should take with you a couple of extra pairs of shoes that you really like, because the heat wears out the soles of shoes very fast, and large shoes (except running shoes) hardly exist. This was one thing that women had to order online and have shipped to KSA. |

Shoes were impossible for me overseas. I wear narrow and I have never been able to find any narrow shoes in the Middle East (or the few places in Europe that I visited). I have always had to buy all of my shoes in the US... and I have never successfully been able to order shoes online that fit.
Most of my clothes ended up being tailor made as it was so cheap.

I have to admit I laughed when someone mentioned that the sheets have to match the top sheet and the bedspread. Mine don't even match now....who cares if they match in KSA? |

Hi!
Aramco is the national oil co, and probably doesn't employ women teachers.
Sockets in our flat and at work are both three pin and two pin, someone told me they were different voltages and we should take care what we plug into to what. I've never found this to be any problem and our flat is littered with adaptor in both directions. Some colleagues have reported exploding appliances though.
The main problem is that there are not enough sockets and they are always in the wrong place, so in order to have a bedside light, you may have to move your bed across the bathroom door, or have a cable trailing across the floor which you'll trip over in the middle of the night. extension leads of all types are available from all the major supermarkets.
Sheets - we got some really nice cotton ones from Danube. We've got the massive bed, larger than single bed, combination in our flat as well, and these sheets are so huge they cover everything.
Why bother bring in your own dvds? Most people just download!
OK - who's going to tell her about the water situation????? |

I'll assume that you are just being sarcastic as I would doubt your native speaking ability if you couldn't figure that one out... it wouldn't even need context.
Or are you suggesting that you don't even use sheets on your bed? ... just sleep on the bare mattress.

You can bet that the Fellows of the Society of 500 do not buy bedsheets. I was attempting to express with some humour my reaction to reading that someone who is coming to KSA did not know about ARAMCO. Itwould be like going to the US and professing ignorance of FORD.

to my defense I've been doing a lot reading both on KSA and for my classes. I have so many different acronyms/abbreviations running through my head that pulling one out of the mix that's going on just wasn't happening. But to those that helped me get the acronym straightened out thank you. |
