Are you going to work at KFUPM ? Accommodation is provided. KFUPM is not in a residential area. Nearest accommodation for rent would be in Khobar. Dammam would be cheaper.

If you are a graduate student at KFUPM, the university may provide suitable accommodation. Have you asked ?

There's a whole slew of new apartment buildings going up in the area between KFUPM/Dhahran Mall and Al Rashid Mall. Most of these small buildings would provide small but suitable apartments for expat families. Wish I could nail it down more for you with a name, but the best I can do is tell you it is the area near City Plaza (or whatever that is called now) and the new ProCare Riaya Hospital.

There is a variety of accommodation available on-campus for graduate students and junior faculty.
