Dear All

I wonder if someone can update us with the latest in the Hail University. Whats happening? What are people/faculty doing now a days? How do they assign courses and do they give teaching material? When exactly do the classes start? How many students in a class? What formalities do we have to do when we land or come to the uni for the first time .... ? (Pretty much run through of your personal experience when you first went to the UoH.

Well, as of this coming new school year (Sept 2010), the UOH is moving to a brand spanking new campus located on a 17 acre plot. All new PYP section with teacher's offices and a teachers common room. Classes will have smart boards (not all of them) and computer labs will abound. I am privy to this information cause I was just at a face to face interview (contrary to popular belief). D says that it is almost finished if not for first or second term then for sure for the third or fourth, which would be 2011.

They interview rigorously. Mine lasted an hour. Needless to say that usually if they interview you here in the KSA you will be offered a position. Usually! There is nothing usual about KSA. I have had post interview chats and D says he's keen on getting me there. I don't know what that means here in KSA also. They are changing their course books from "Headway" to "Side by Side". I have never used this new course book but have used Headway quite extensively. Does anyone know what it's like to teach with this? Will it be enough? Do I need to supplement heavily, lightly, occasionally or not at all?

I have looked around Hail and those volcanic rock formations and mountains around the city are a great distraction, especially if your office window faces in that direction. My first impression of Hail was good because I ate at Micky Dee's and noticed a Pizza Hut and KFC across from it. The temperature was cooler than the place I came from and I commented on this and was surprised because they said it was the hottest summer that they could remember. D looks like he's been there a while sort of like Larry King of the KSA, predates history.

So all in all I would say 6.83 out of 10 for Hail.

So, does the Pizza hut and other western establishments like it, use halal meat, or do they use the meat that they would use in the US?

Thanks, for the information. The individuals in UAE (@ the Dubai McDonalds) told me that they didn't know if their food was halal, so I just thought that it may be the same in KSA.

You mean the "dummies" in the UAE, doncha? McD's goes out of its way to profess that its meat is halal. This is the way in any of the non-secular Arab/Muslim states. If not, you'd have the same kind of riots they had in India a few years back when it came out that McD's french fries were cooked in animal fat rather than vegetable oil...

You are guaranteed that your taste buds with remain pristine and holier-than-mine...
