Does anyone know if hachi jyu ni ginko does international transfers?
Given im leaving on the 18th i wont be able to sign up for lloyds in time.

Easiest and cheapest way is international postal money order.

i usually use golloyds ...www.lloydstsb.co.jp
It costs 2000 yen for up to a million yen i think and can be done from any ATM. Takes about 2-3 days to reach into the receiving account.

Use XE.com - cheaper than Llyod's, you only pay 420 yen for the bank transfer and nothing on the receiving end and takes about 2-3 days.

Hi! This might be a silly question, but I am going to need to send a lot money home (USA) to pay of loans I have there. Is Xe.com, the best way for me to do this? Do I need a Japanese bank account to use it? Is there another way? Thanks for your help!

I have a question to ask, specifically to those who have used XE Trade or familiar with how it works. I got it set up and all that's left to do is to wire transfer the money to XE's bank account, but that's where I'm having trouble. I think part of the reason might be because I hold a postal bank account, and not a Japanese bank account (does that matter? ). I've already tried it once (after having to ask the XE people questions via email) but the money bounced and came back.

Here's what XE told me in the email:
"Your bank will need to initiate an international transfer (hikyujusha kanjyo') so that we receive credit for the funds.
インターナショナルワイアートランスファーとして、これらの資金をあなたの銀行にアドバイスしてください。または、資金はあなたに返されるでしょう。
If your bank is unable to wire the funds as an international transfer you can attempt to remit payment to Bank of America using an ATM via a domestic funds transfer. "

Can someone explain this to me in plain english so that somoene like me will understand? Thanks ahead of time.

I've been using XE.com for a couple of years now. I've always had great things to say about it and I'm still fond of it. But, just to let everyone know, the rate I get isn't as good as it was a year ago before they changed their system around. That being said, I still recommend them as way better than golloyds or any other method to send money home.

Here is some info that I was given after contacting XE.com and asking for help. I have a post office bank account and can't send money using a teller. Sending money using the ATM involved some trial and error, but I eventually got it down. I hope the following info is helpful to you. This info is for sending money to Canada.

Please note that this account is NOT a regular/local resident account (普通). If an account type designation is needed it is technically a business/corporate account.

Your bank will need to initiate an international transfer (hikyujusha kanjyo) so that we receive credit for the funds.

If your bank is unable to wire the funds as an international transfer you can attempt to remit payment to Bank of America using an ATM via a domestic funds transfer. From experience with several of our clients they have been successful in sending us JPY using an ATM. Though Custom House is a non resident account, you may transfer via domestic funds transfer system (so called Zengin system) provided that you indicate "non resident account" as part of the beneficiary information.

"Beneficiary information" is called "Bikou" in Japanese. Unless there is an indication of "Non resident acct," we are not able to receive payment from you. If you have difficulties in locating the column of beneficiary information at an AT, you can try to input, "Non Resident JPY" after the beneficiary name.

Example: Custom House Ltd, Non res JPY.
