I would like to work at a university in BKK. Where do they advertise the jobs? |

MOD EDIT
Otherwise, from my experiences, the unis are too lazy to advertise... Especially on English language websites (God forbid English departments of Unis in Thailand actually have to use English language to advertise about job openings they might have)..best strategy might be to physically go to the uni and find the English dept and drop off your resume... |

A very famous university which is bang in the middle of Bangkok NEVER advertises, although the words "Instructors Wanted" occasionally appear in a tiny corner of the website.
The Bangkok Post will sometimes show advertisements, especially for the private universities.
MOD EDIT
Keep in mind that Rajabhat Universities are ex-teacher training colleges. While some are excellent in serving the communities local to them, they are perceived by some people as slightly inferior academically. In the rural ones, kids will be very grateful and keen (unlike rude rich kids in the "best" unis in BKK)...but they may not all be little Einsteins.

Unis in Thailand are very different from those elsewhere. You may end up working year round not getting the several months of vacation most profs get in say, Korea. I was offered a job many moons ago at a 'reputable' Bangkok uni and turned it down once I saw the duties involved. Basically, I would have been working harder for less salary and minimal vacation time. I ended up taking on an institute job that I was much happier at.

The pay seems quite low in Thailand.
Am I missing something? |

Gvment uni salary is 20,000b plus about 9,000b for accomm allowance.
That will creep up by about 500b a year to a max of about 35k.
(Approx)
Thai teachers get less.
All teachers on 30,000 must do privates, weekends or extra stuff if they want to do OK, especially in BKK with its distractions and quite expensive condos blah blah blah.
If you want to save money, work in Saudi or UAE.

There are a few gems among the unis. If you can get in an international program you could earn six-figure numbers, but as some people said already, these jobs are usually not advertised.
Most people are working in unis not for the money but for the teaching environment. |

Actually, Thammasat University is advertising a position at the moment. Check the biggest newspaper. |

If you are qualified and watchful you can often find positions in the 60k baht range for 14-18 classes per week.
They are competitive so if you are trying with just a BA and TESOL you are not likely to land it but if you have more or related experience then they are out there.

Yes, most of the top places also have 'intl' courses for at least some of the year. One famous uni pays 2500b an hour for this extra work, and another pays 2000.
The international courses are not always international (like, they are still mainly full of Thais as opposed to Germans), but they are called that to distinguish them from the regular Thai programmes in the normal Thai uni year cycle. All of the kids on the international progs will be there because their Mom paid 100,000 or 300,000b for the chance to 'study' at a main place. Some of the kids are good cos they dun IB or A-levels at International Schools, and this is a progression. Some kids are dumb but Mom has diamonds and drivers.
The above posters are right. You may not get a lot of this cream stuff if you are 24 with a CELTA. You need to be around a fair while and get a reputation/or crawl to the right people. Plus, you need the MA or the background. I know a girl with an MBA plus BA plusTESOL and she gets plenty of cream by working extra in the Business/Econ department. If you are 24 with a new BA from Iowa College and a very new TESOL then you can't just get on a plane and get all these wonderful jobs. The old guys who lived here 30 years keep all of them. Most people start here like anywhere--it takes 2-3 years to understand stuff and realise what you gotta do. Most people will earn 30-35k, which is why I get so many mails asking 'Can I live on 30,000b Eddy?'
If you are a visiting prof with a PhD in econometrics or polymer science, you can fly in to guest spots at huge money, have a hotel and then fly back to Indiana or wherever you come from. But, that is the real cream stuff.
Some people at MA plus TESOL level who live here and are watchful can get part-time at good money (2000b or more) in not-very-famous places which need someone for, say, 3 hours a week teaching English for Psychologists or Report Writing for Scientists.
I only have knowledge of gvmt places. I have no idea what they pay at famous private unis like Assumption. Of course, there are expensive bad private universities, moderately good but-not-famous public ones, and all sorts of menu combinations in between. Play with your googleys like crazy, visit unmentionable websites and do all you can.
One big up for the public unis is that most have long breaks. In many, you just keep low and show your face some days during March, April, May and October, as long as you don't act crazy and you do your admin work. Again, I don't know about the private system.
