Huwei x2 Confused

Miaoli City (Town?) would be much better. It does have a variety of stores and restaurants, and even a sports centre. And it's on the train line, so easy access to Taipei and Taichung.

Rule of Thumb: The smaller the town, the less normal life will be.

Dear Readers,

I'd probably recommend living in the better-known cities...and then escaping to the country-side on the weekends.
