|
|
It seems as though no one is really hiring anyone right now. If anyone knows of any companies that are in Chiba and are hiring, and not a totally evil company, I would appreciate the help.
I dont want to make 45,000yen for August, I cant live off of that, not even close. |

There are loads. Heart do some. Check out some of the other big name foriegn job websites and you'll find new ALT posts, mostly around Tokyo like Chiba. |

Interac is not hiring. I know from insiders, at least not full time in a commutable distance from Chiba city.
Heart? You serious?
I'm asking as I live in Chiba, and I can't afford to move, and my gf is doing her Masters here. |

If you can't get into JET and you want to be an ALT then you can't expect to find a good ALT despatch company.
I just did a quick search on Gaijin Pot (I'm not sure if we can write other job sites on here.. very sorry if I'm breaking rules) for the Chiba area and found 4 ALT jobs on the first page alone. "RCS" "ACUP Japan" Interac are all advertising ALT jobs (2 jobs listed for Interac and ACUP Japan). |

Yeah, no JET so far for me. I will try, but it's def no sure thing.
All those ALT jobs are PT. Not a single one is FT. I really need at least 150,000 a month to survive. And they wont get me that, I'm sure. |

I don't know if Kimitsu is not too far away, but if it's not and you drive then Interac is looking for a FT elementary school ALT starting September.
But either way, perhaps you should contact big ALT companies in the area and let them know that you are looking for a job.
People bail all the time and bailers are not likely to give much or any notice. The fact you are currently in the area and have a work visa in hand means you can start at short notice.
If companies want to know why you are looking for a new job mid contract, make sure you don't bad mouth your current employer or else you will just come across as whiney and hard to please and they will be weary about taking you on for fear that you will jump ship on them, too.
Tell them something along the lines of that you didn't read you contract fully or that in your excitement you didn't ask the right questions, so you didn't realise that you weren't going to be paid enough to survive at the holidays.
Just out of interest; why did you accept a job that was going to pay so little for the holiday period in the first place? |

Wow, I knew that RCS was bad, but worse than Heart? How is that actually possible? |

I can't drive, but I did talk to them, and there are no contracts that are full time for sept.
Well, I guess my reason for wanting to leave is the total lack of my company keeping it's end of the contract. I dont get any holidays off save for 3 in Obon and 4 in December. While in my contract it says that I get holidays off in principal, unless there is campaigning, subbing" Guess what, there is always campaigning. Plus if I get that day off, I owe them a day off.
I accepted the job because none was made known to me verbally or in the contract until after I started working last year. |

You seem to like defending Heart.
I've seen some very mixed reviews for Heart. Not everyone in EFL is going to post here or in other forums.
It is a shame that I don't have my old laptop any more. I would love to send you the links for some of the better employer review sites that I was watching back when I was looking for a job.
But the fact that Heart will offer salaries so far below the standard 250,000 is enough to make them bad in a sense. RCS is a pretty crooked employer but even they pay a bit more than 205,000.
That being said, I know some people in my city who worked for RCS and they didn't enjoy it.
To the OP: definately avoid RCS. |

The position I was talking about was posted on their site June 9th. When did you speak to them? I should also see if I deleted the refferal email that I received. Our branch was asking us if we knew of any people who were looking for jobs...
And as I said before, contact the ALT companies in the area (i.e. not only Interac) and let them know. Then they might consider you for jobs if somebody bails.

And did you ask exactly when the holidays were? Did you ask in which periods campaigning stopped? If that is what it is says in their contract then they worded it very cleverly and I don't see how they are not keeping up their end of the deal in this respect. I'm not saying they are right to do it, mind you.
Either way, tell any any employer that and you are running the risk of looking like a hard to please employee. |

Well I do work for them, and have not had a bad experience thus far. You work for Interac and I've seen you set people straight plenty of times. I'm not saying they are amazing and recommending that everyone take a job with them, I'm just trying to provide information gleaned first hand, something that seems in short supply. The way all the different Japan ESL forums work, one person makes a comment about a company being rubbish, someone else paraphrases somewhere else, someone else links to that from somewhere else...next thing it's common 'knowledge' that it's a terrible place to work, based on next to nothing.
I did my research on the company before I accepted the offer, the worst I found was some threads on another forum from 4 years ago that alluded to the owner being a bit dishonest and the salary being low. The FAQ on Heart's website makes it clear that the salary is low and not really suitable for someone that wants live comfortably and save money. Fairly undemanding, low paid entry level position especially suited to teachers with little experience.
I'm going to say no more about it anyway, promise. |

That I have. But if you read my posts you'll see I don't defend them at all and have in fact often highlighted the bad points of the company, despite my experience with them being absolutely fine.
Just because Interac have actually been pretty good to me and I actually am in a branch with decent managers and schedulers, I still take note that they are not always so good to others and that some of the other branches are infamous for their horrible treatment of their staff.
You on the other hand refuse to accept that Heart might have earnt its not so shiny rep. And like I said before, you shouldn't just be looking on forums. Some of the review sites had people making epic posts about their own experiences (so not the grapevine stuff you are talking about) and they did indeed give some very mixed reviews. |
