Ladies and gentlemen, my apologies if the Institute and Academy are one in the same. Any info much appreciated. Just talked to a recruiter who was interested in negotiating daily rates. But the job is not rotation. She mentioned ten hour days/5 day week and 30 days holiday after one year! |

Never heard of it, DD. Any website available?
Those ten-hour days and 'daily rates' make the place sound, erm, a little less than appealing, though.
Maybe there's a 'secret supplement', paid in petroleum?! |

Dear SS the recruiter has a website:
http://www.oilandgas.cegelec.com/
No need for a petroleum vouchers as the daily rate and living allowance are extremely generous. Too good to be true? Even a ten hour day made up mostly of office hours would be counter productive for all involved. |

What could possibly be the point of a 10 hour day? What are the contact hours and how many thumb twiddling hours? Is it teaching English or job training? Out on a rig or something?
This job has never been mentioned here before. Ask lots of questions...

Hi
This is a job offered by Total in Shahama training centre with a negotiated salary. They seem to be offering something in the region of $400-500 per day with the usual benefits. Seems a good offer but I don't know if it is a single status of family status position. They want you to put down an expected salary so work out what you think is reasonable - take into consideration living expenses and savings etc..

Hey Tom... why the 10 hour days? Do you have any idea?

Seems to me only a rotation job would have ten-hour days. If it were a 28/28 like mine was in West Africa, $500 would comprise $500 x 30 days (travel days are paid) x 6 on-rotations = approx $90,000. The OP says it's not a rotation job, in which case $500 daily for 250 work days and the rest unpaid would still amount to $125,000.
I don't see any English teaching positions in the above link. |

Thanks Tom. The recruiter definitely specified a five day week and non-rotational. As for the ten hour day, I worked long days in Libya, but with a long lunch break. The place is within 50km of the centre of Abu Dhabi. So perhaps expensive weekends.
Any more info gratefully received. Due to talk to the recruiter again today if the customer is interested. Thanks for all the replies |

What is Shahama like as a place to live (shopping available?) and what would a decent (Western standard) one-bedroom flat cost per month? |

Is Shahama an offshoot of IAT? That's the impression I got from my web search. |
