Does anybody know what exactly is meant by an MA in a "related" field. I have a BA in English Lit, an MA in Drama, and CELTA, and am trying to find work at a university in the UAE. Any opinions as to whether it is worth me applying to Zayed for instance? |

TESOL/Applied Linguistics is what is meant by a related field. |

Competition is tough right now as there are many job hunters. That said... if you have some years of good IEP experience, especially teaching writing, and/or experience with Arabic speakers, you just might be considered. You are way too late for this year as hiring was done in March-May, but for the next academic year, you lose nothing by applying. The worst thing is that they ignore it.

Thanks for the advice.
yeah, I taught various subjects (including writing) at a uni in South Korea for a few years, so maybe that would help my case. actually hoping to find something for next Feb/ march. does anyone know the best place would be to find job postings? I probably won't start seriously looking for til later in the year, but I'm quite in the dark so any light on this would be appreciated. |

Second semester normally starts in late Jan/early Feb. There would be nothing starting in March. I would suggest just watching the websites of the tertiary institutions and see what posts they are advertising. I wouldn't wait too long to apply. December will start the application process for the next September. HCT is probably the most likely to be doing mid-year hiring... see other threads re their current problems.
Actually I do know one university in the Middle East that has a theater major... The American University in Cairo. But, I suspect that they require a PhD. (AUBeirut probably does too)

a degree in Drama would be an excellent credential for work in the UAE.
cheers, and good luck, mate.

I don't think you need to study theater to be good at theatrics..... |
