I know that in Spain, employers expect job seekers to include a photo on their CV.
I know this because I did my TEFL course in Spain; however, I would like to teach in Mexico. My TEFL course trainers explained that every country has different requirements and told us to inquire about the country that interests us.
Do employers in Mexico like for applicants to post a photo on their resume? I would be very grateful for some tips on how to present myself for the photo, if this is the case.
Please no rude or mean comments!
Maybe this question has been asked before, but I made a good college try to find a similar question, and I couldn't. I've never asked this; it's very important! |

I would see this as no big deal. Put a photo on your CV and you can't go wrong. I would go for a passport look in the photo. Semi-formal, semi-smiling. |

Yes, it's very common for employers to ask for things in Mexico that might not be asked for in your home country. Forewarned is forearmed. Aside from being asked for a photo - probably 80% of the time - you will be asked questions in the interview that you would not be asked in the US/Canada or probably a lot of other English speaking countries - such as your age, if you are married, if you have children, etc. Be prepared for these questions, and have an answer ready, even if it makes you uncomfortable. These questions are not illegal to ask, and some jobs will even specify that they want you to be married or single. I just went ahead and put a small picture on my resume, and that seems to have been fine with people. Just a simple photo as someone said. If your DL or passport photo isn't too bad, just scan it and paste it on your resume. |

Yes, you need a photo. Where are you applying to teach? Just look as presentable as possible in the photo. As horrible as this is to say, if you are applying to a nice private school, the chances are they will be pretty biased and won't accept people they think won't make the appearance of their school "look good."
Good luck! |

I just wanted to say thanks!! The information you guys provided is going to be very valuable to me!
I appreciate ALL of your answers.
Teresa, how could I forget! I remember when I was studying in Mexico and how shocked I was when I noticed some of the questions interviewers asked! It's just a cultural difference; nothing bad, though.
I'm single, by the way. I've learnt a lot about the interviewing world from my Mexican friends (many of whom are in fields other than teaching) and I've heard that it's very common for an interviewer to ask similar questions.
I guess... just dress nicely and be groomed? Or is there a particular "image" that schools have in mind?
I have red hair, and freckles, so I DO stand out a bit. But, I like to look neat. Aog, I don't know that it's horrible to say, but I am just curious about private schools that are concerned about "looking good." What does this mean? I hope this isn't a horrible question! Do they have a certain "image?"
I have several places in mind to teach down there... I'm really worried about finding a job at this point in the year but I've done my best and will do my best. Thanks for your help again! I really appreciate it! |
