Just curious about the apts the teachers live in while working for AEON. Are the OK or very bad?
Thanks! |

A friend of mine worked in a western Japan branch of AEON. Her apartment was equivalent to a studio flat in the UK, but was easily large enough for her needs.
It was a bit messy (her fault), but was definitely liveable - I've lived in far worse places in the UK and paid more rent for the 'privilege'... |

I think it depends on where you go. Obv an apartment in a big city will be more expensive and smaller, whereas you'll get a better deal in a countryside branch. |

When I worked there from late 2008 to early 2009 the rent was capped at 55,000. I was lucky that my rent was 45,500. My apartment was huge by Tokyo apartment size standards. I had one large room with my double sized western style bed, coffee table, tv stand, desk, couch and a couple of book cases. And then a separate kitchen and bathroom. I think on average they say that the apartment sizes are 6 tatami mats. I think mine was 10-12. I don't remember the exact measurements but it was one of the largest apartments out of all of the trainees in my group. The only one that was larger was up in Hokkaido. If interested, I do have some pictures of my apartment. But mind you, I was 6 hours north of Tokyo, where I'm sure the apartments will probably be much smaller. |

I worked with AEON Amity in Okayama-ken from 2002-2005. Iverin's description sounds a lot like my apartment was, too. One bigger room that fit a western-style bed, desk, bookshelf, sofa, TV, and clothing rack; huge closet' smallish kitchen; toilet; and a shower/sink/washing machine room. My apartment was the biggest of the three foreign teachers at my school and I quite liked it. Of course, I'm married with a young son now, so if/when we go back to Japan, we'll need something much bigger, but for my single days, it was great. I think I paid 42,000/month in rent.
I had a good experience with Amity, too, BTW. |
