|
|
Hi,
I've accepted a job in the UAE and I am currently trying to get my marriage certificate, BA, MA, and academic transcripts "attested" for my new employer.
This involves:
1. Getting a notary republic to notarize each document
2. Getting the County Clerk in the same county as the notary republic to certify each document after checking that the notary is correct
3. Taking the documents then to the secretary of state for my state's office to have it certified by the state
4. Taking/Sending it to the US State Department to be certified by them
5. Taking/Sending it to the UAE Consulate/Embassy to be certified by them
Each step is costly, time prohibitive, and I will not be in the US until early August.
Does anyone know of or can recommend some type of agent that does this sort of thing? Someone I could send the documents to who knows how to sort through the red tape for an appropriate fee? Someone who could start before I returned to the states from my current gig?
Or, save that, any advice about how to best accomplish this paperwork feat more expediently than I am envisioning myself doing so at the moment?
Thanks for your time,
Ix |

You could probably accomplish all of this from wherever you are at the moment if you fedexed the paperwork to each place with an enclosed prepaid return self-addressed FedEx envelope. This way, you could at least get the ball rolling.

Just to make it clear... no one in that list in certifying the validity of any document. A notary notarizes a signature. The country clerk is certifying that the notary is a notary... as is the state 'secretary of state.' The State Department is certifying the state signature. And the Embassy is just collecting the money for a stamp. Totally a racket to separate us from our money. But, anyway...
I have PMed you someone that was recommended to do this.

VS,
Thanks. Will check the PM in a second.
Oh yeah, it's a great racket. Get one signature to approve another all the way up the line.
Heaven forbid I actually just present the documents with a letter of authenticity from the issuers with an address/phone#/email they could use to check.
Thank you,

In the past, HCT required a letter from you to your universities to get direct official transcripts from them. That actually confirms that you attended and graduated.
That was my only employer that actually confirmed my papers. My "attested" papers could have been done at Kinkos and they wouldn't have known.

It means that there is some proof offered that the documents you present are real.
If for example you are offered a job at the HCT and claim you have an MA, then the HCT wants proof. It's not easy for them to authenticate a document from any university or college worldwide which is why you have to jump through the several hoops outlined in previous posts.
HCT believes what the UAE foreign ministry or education department says or stamps.
UAE government departments believe what their overseas embassies say, or possibly the equivalent government department in another country.
UAE embassies overseas believe what government departments in that country say or stamp.
And so on and so on.
Nobody believes you so you have to start at the bottom ... |

they are seperate things.
Your university can send certified copies of your transcripts (the official transcripts which have the seal of the school on them)
But your degree, marriage license (and kids birth certificates) need to be attested.
Depending on your nationality different things are required.
If you are from the US you need to have the degrees
notarized, then authenticated from the secretary of state in the state your school is in, then authenticated by the US secretary of states office, then authenticated by the UAE's embassy in washington dc.
your official transcripts can usually be requested from your school and do not need to be notarized/authenticated by the three stooges. |

When did HCT stop requiring transcripts directly from your university? They were in the 90s the only university that had the smarts to do this. When ZU was organized, it obviously adopted the HCT system.
Anyone know if and when it changed? A stupid move if they made it...

Actually, I was talking in general terms for the attestation process. Using the HCT as an example might have been a poor choice if they accept transcripts direct from university. I'm not familiar with the details of the HCT process any longer. |

Ah... so you just wanted to slap HCT. There are plenty of things to slap them for, but I think that this isn't one of them.
...actually you have the verb wrong... it is not "accept" official transcripts, it is (or was) "require" official transcripts.

Erm, I don't know why I picked HCT ... it wasn't to have a poke at them. Anyway, HCT-slapping lost its allure many years ago .

I would ask Zayed HR, CCL... getting official transcripts mailed to them is the easiest way (and the cheapest).
ZU is pretty organized. They should be able to give you specific instructions on what to do.

Only lately ? Been a theme for as long as I can remember, with some colleges deserving ... er ... receiving more slapping depending on who's in charge . |
