|
|
Okay, so we have all struck the Chinese girls with stipper names: Buffy, Bambi, Lolita, Heidi, Jazz, Bubbles, etc
and the little Chinese guys with names like (sorry don't know the politically correct term) Leeroy, Lebron, Akon, De Shawn, Jemal, etc
Aside from those common cultural misinterpretations, the worst 'English names' I have ever encountered were:Apple, Killer, Money, King (for a girl), Strider.... and others I'm forgetting - there will be another edit when I remember some other offenders.
What about the ones that just spell them wrong - Jesamine, Samanfa, Killy (Jasmine, Samantha and Kelly respectively - surely, right)
I look forward to your imput |

"Wisdom" (boy)
"Nature" (girl)
"Washy" (boy, and don't know what he was getting at with that)
"K-Maxx" (boy - the 'K' doesn't stand for anything, it's just 'K-maxx')
Incidentally, if I were Chinese I would just use my Chinese name (and let people use it without the tones) like Japanese people tend to do. |

There was a Chinese kid at our university who called himself Sherlock. That was pretty bad. |

At the first place I taught at, there was a girl who called herself "Sex Babe". When I asked her why she chose this name, she told me that she had seen it in a western magazine under a beautiful girl.
Other strange ones that I have come across include; Pylon, Zombie, and Wart. |

'Undertaker' is the wackiest I've come across.
Something I find very silly is choosing an English name that you can't ever hope to pronounce. I remember a 'Spring': "My name Se pe ring!" |

The best example I have ever encountered was the man who combined two English adjectives by taking the first part of one and the last part of the other. For example, "strong" and "smart" became "Strart". I did not make this up. |

Demon (female); actually, it's got a nice sound if you don't know the meaning. Two women who sat next to each other in class were Coffee and Milk. Here's a full class list from last term ("normal" names are included): Alina, Hunny, Rain, Tiffary, Onish, Ben, July, Icy, Apple, Coco, Siner, Sibyl, Meg, Cherie, Edward, Wanna, Ury, Jenny, Sunny, Elune, Ann, Maria, Wenzy, Niki, Elain, Tina, Chury. To put this in perspective, though, my great-grandfather's given name was "Shirley" (US). |

Now I think about it we had a 'Wind' once, who could probably get a seat to himself on the bus. |

I had a student walk into the classroom late on the first day of a new class.
As he came into the room, he proudly said "Hello, I'm God!!
He was quickly put right about who God is in the classroom. |

Why do people consider Apple a bad name? There are girls in the US named Apple.
Worst names - I've also had an Undertaker (wouldn't allow it), Snowangel, Wingdar (I think a horrible misspelling of Linda), Banana, Sailboat, Left, Right, Merena (sounds good but is it a real name?).
And my personal favorite: Killer7. He said it was the name he used on Counterstrike. |

I recently had an adult male student called 'Hunk'
Not as egotistical as it appears, he told me its a popular name in the USA, and a short form/nickname for the name 'Henry'. I think he had misheard 'Hank' |
