I auditioned for them, they hired me. I taught all the classes to the best of my abilities and felt like the kids were really learning and having fun. But, this school never gave me any of the training they promised and continually gave me mixed signals on what they wanted. I was fired less than a week after they got my ARC because it was just a try-out period. So, why did they get my ARC? They are complete liars. Unless you can come up with hours of stand-up material that translates to Taiwanese kids and have the stage presence to pull it off while teaching in another language, this place is not for you. In general, Chia-Yi is not a good place for teachers to receive proper respect. Go to a better city or country. That's my advice. And, don't believe anything they say. I got the impression they think Americans are stupid. My experience was so bad that I cut my loses and came back to the states. Best decision I ever made. I'll never take this country's greatness for granted. Our living conditions are a million times better than what I found in Taiwan. I never said anything about that to the Taiwanese people, but living over there had quite a depressing effect on me. |

Hi Scobo,
Sorry to hear that things did not work out!
Did this "Elite" school in Chia-yi have other native speakers working for them? How did you ever end up there in the first place?
I went to Chia-yi once and had a massive allergy attack, so that's really all I remember about the place.
Best wishes in the future. Hope you can give us a few more details.
