The urine test is for blood sugar (diabetes check), various enzymes (early signs of certain cancer), and general organ workup (like liver).

This is one of the parts I have problems with sometimes. Not the idea of it, just the way I often see it being done. IME they just hand you a cup and send you off on your way, bring it back and they use a simple paper litmus test.

The problem is that you can't test, for example, for blood sugar levels or anything like that if the person has been eating or drinking inside the last twelve hours - otherwsie you have to know exactly what they've been eating and how much so you can allow for it in the testing. Handing someone a cup straight after or before lunch and then dropping a sugar test into it? Pointless.

Yes, you are right about how to properly test for blood sugar. My school tells me to stop eating the night before, beginning at 8pm, so as not to prejudice the results. Can't say why yours doesn't.

I assume this is a totally sarcastic remark. Considering the number of overweight and obese people in the USA, and that the longevity in Japan tops the world, I would HOPE it's sarcastic.

"THE RIGHT WAY - THE AMERICAN WAY"

Irony I think rather than sarcasm.

Maybe I should remember that those from the former colonies in N. America are challenged when it comes to understanding irony.

For more on this see Bill Bryson's books.

Not according to the Microsoft (i.e. AMERICAN) world atlas software I have. It actually lists Andorra, San Marino and Australia before Japan in fourth place.

As a followup to my original question....

I took the "Iwantmyrightsnow" method -- I just very quietly, and very inconspicuously just didn't go to my appointment.

No one said so much as a word... Smile

Cheers,

JD

(Sometimes I think I prefer the Japanese method of wading through bureaucracy)

Only people looking to pick an argument still says "colonies" anymore when referring to the USA. Give up the attempt at denigrating Americans. You only look foolish and old-fashioned.

shmooj,
Still beats the USA by a long shot. (I was using the WHO stats, but I see they are a bit dated.) Thanks for keeping me honest.

JD2 - an interesting choice of approach and a great result for you - well done

Glenski - don't for a minute think I was posting seriously there. We all have a long way to go before we rely on Microsoft for our stats Wink
