|
|
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out...after spending about 1 1/2 years teaching in Korea, I'm looking to teach in SA or even the UAE . I have a BSc. and am considering to take the CELTA.
That being said, what are the chance of someone with my experience getting hired in SA/UAE? I've been doing a lot of research on schools, job postings, etc. and have found some good info on here, although I was hoping to hear from a few people about any current job openings in SA or the UAE. Reputable schools
After doing some more research, I decided to turn down 2 offers over the past couple weeks and am hoping to find the right school to commit to. I guess a part of this was my mistake for even applying to some of these schools. I'd like to avoid this mistake as best I can and secure a good teaching position. Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance! |

My advice is not to go for a "school" but a college or university.
I know that our transatlantic and cisatlantic cousins sometimes use "school" to mean higher institutions. Thos of us from the Old World and Gulfies do not use that confusing terminology.
Get your CELTA and you will get a job. |

Shouldn't one's degree(s) have something to do with that likelihood? How about for someone without an Eng. or Ed. degree but an (unrelated) Masters? |

Scot47 is right in that anything calling itself a "school" or a "language institute" is probably a bad bet in KSA. Unless it is one of the very few true international schools and you are a highly experienced, trained, and certified teacher, you had best avoid any cowboy outfit calling itself a school.
However, keep in mind that just because a place calls itself a college or university, that doesn't mean it can't be just as bad. Government universities and colleges are often safe bets, but you need to investigate any private university before signing on. Be especially suspicious of those that call themselves Western-style universities and seem to focus more on dazzling students with technology rather than actually teaching them to learn at the university level. Prince Mohammad University in the EP is one such institution...be very careful to check out the fine print before signing on at a place like this. |
