| Why are some people given 90 day visas and others given work visas right away? |
Hopefully I'll be corrected if wrong, but my understanding is everyone is brought over with a 90 day visa. Within 90 days, a reputable employer arranges for an "iqama", or temporary residency (yearly renewed) that serves as your I.D.
I'm unaware of "work visas" right away.
I placed reputable in bold because, beginning last year, there's been some changes in visa policy, creating a lot of confusion. Temporary visas, as they're called, have made visa policy confusing to practically everyone on this board. Several contractors and institutions arranged for teachers to be brought over more quickly (with temporary visas) by delaying the paperwork necessitated by a visa in which an intent to live and work in Saudi Arabia is stated. I think the main criterion avoided with a temporary visa was a medical testing requirement. |

| A good employer will not mess around and will bring you in with a real work visa right away and get an iqama within a few days. Who are the good employers ? Read the threads here and it should become clear. |
