Hi, everyone, I need some help. I've looked around on the forum for an answer to this, but I can't find it.

I need to pay my monthly taxes (IETU and IVA) today. This is the the first time I have ever had to pay taxes in this manner, and I'm not sure how. I have several Bancomer accounts, but I don't have the advanced online banking, or whatever it's called, so I can't pay them this way (though I'm definitely signing up for this soon, even if I do have to pay an extra 30 pesos a month Sad). I there another way to pay without having to go to the SAT? And if I have to make a trip there today, what do I do?

Thanks in advance!

Are you getting paid via recibos de honorarios? Are you independent, or working for someone else? If you are working for someone else, an institute, for example, they should withhold for you.

I work as an in-house translator at a local law firm (nmina) and also freelance (honorarios). I just need to pay taxes that correspond to my declaracin provisional, which only pertains to my honorarios.

I was able to get rid of ISR this month, so all that are left to pay are IETU and IVA.

Thanks for your speedy reply, Teresa. My accountant just got back to me with a form that I can fill out and present along with the identification card I was given when I registered myself with the tax ministry. I was told to take this form to my bank with my payment.

Is this the only way to pay, besides making an online payment through your bank?

Take care of your accountant...they can work miracles in Mexico!

Ours would file the forms for us at the bank, each month.

And mine would do all that for $100 MX per month!

Each month so far I've made an appt online and gone to the tax office where they've prepared my declaration for me on my self-employment income and produced a statement which I then take to the bank along with the card you mentioned and make payment: there are no lines typically at my bank so it doesn't take too long

I think if I had all the programs necessary loaded on my computer (downloaded from the SAT website) I could do the tax declaration myself online and print out the statement which must accompany the payment at the bank but thus far I've not managed to get that far! (And as you say I think you can even make the payment online when you're set up to do it)

I've watched them do the declarations and the program used to prepare the declaration is not that intuitive and I would expect to run into snags- but doing it online myself would be a real convenience

Phil and Guy have found people who will do these things very cheaply: I don't know if such people even exist here in Cancun- accountants have been very elusive in my experience so far

Since all of my income is from private students and recorded on myrecibos, I have to pay taxes every month. My accountant, who is also a friend, used to come to my apartment once a month to figure out what I owe, but lately he's been helping me for free (!) over the internet. (I guess eventually he'll present me with a bill.) I tell him how much I'm declaring and he sends me the data I need to fill out the forms he's given me. I go to the bank and pay the taxes in person, which takes very little time unless there's a long line.

All my business is independent and on recibos de honorarios. Thats the only tax situation I can speak to.

Ive always had an accountant, though their rates have gone up every year. I had one accountant who charged me $300 a month 2 years ago, then increased to $350 last year, and then wanted to increase to $400 this year. I went shopping around and was told $400 by another one and even $450 by someone else. I ended up with an accountant that charges me $250, but Ive got to drive a good distance.

I looked into filing my own, but it was going to take some time to figure it out. With the new IEUTU (sp?), there were even more forms to fill out this year. And for $250, I figured that my time would be better spent focusing on other things.

You can do it yourself. The principles behind what invoices you can submit are pretty common sense, but youve got to learn the language. When I owe, I pay at the bank and thats easy. I dont know that Id go to Hacienda and have them help me file taxes every month. Theyre not going to try saving you any money and Id imagine youd end up losing some money.

On another note, Ive never filed taxes in the US and Ive been told that I should, even though I have no US income. Its been explained to me that the Mexican taxes I pay would serve as a deduction for my US taxes and I may or may not need to pay to the IRS. Who here doesn`t make any money back home but still files?

I'm not sure that is correct. As far as I know, the US and Mexico have no tax treaty to eliminate double taxation. I thought you were supposed to declare your gross income in Mexico on a US tax return as 'world income' or some such moniker. Mind you, there is an exemption on paying taxes on up to 88,000 dollars earned abroad. I doubt you're worried about going over that amount?

I still file U.S. tax returns, even though I have no U.S. income. It's required by law, but I'm not sure how strict the IRS is about enforcing this. The amount before being taxed on income earned abroad for FY2009 was a little over US$93,000. You can check all of this out on the IRS's website, though you might need a little time to wade through all of the information.

There was a convention on double-taxation between Mexico and the U.S. in the early nineties. Here is a link to the text:
