Interesting. Maybe it is different in the Middle East, but in Mexico I find the exact opposite to be true.

Well... it is VERY different.

I have taught all men (only once), all women (for almost 4 years), and mixed classes the other years. I must say that I liked them all, but for different reasons. Discussions can be wonderfully uninhibited teaching all women. While I felt that the men were easier to discipline.

But what Trap was referring to is the fact that both sexes behave better in the Gulf in a mixed class. There is a strong cultural taboo about them being in the same room and mixing with unrelated members of the opposite sex. For most of them, it is their first experience of this and they are very nervous about it for the first semester or two... the men more so than the women. Cool

It is actually an interesting thing to watch as they learn this uncharted situation.

I work in a great girls' secondary school here in Melbourne with articulate, challenging, complicated and infuriating women (students and colleagues). In my opinion they have made my life and career as a teacher of English literature more rewarding and it's one of the reasons why I keep postponing my sojourn to the Middle East. Of course, being one of the few thorns amongst the roses means I get quite a bit of attention. Wink How do you guys handle it in KSA without women to provide that additional bit of mental and emotional stimulation (never mind that other bit)?

One more thing, I noticed I had become careless about things I said in the office and had to really watch what I said around women once I returned to the US.

My question is,"How do you guys manage to work in an environment with all these women ?" They boss you around and are totally IRRATIONAL ! Should not be allowed. Let's go back to 1850 !.

Many male teachers in the Gulf are a.) too old to remember all that hormonal dating stuff, b.) dippers in the choccy fountain, c.) too pickled on grog to care or d.) so fattened up on Kabsa that finding the wherewithall is an effort in itself:-)

Seriosly though, I taught women for 1 week in Qatar and they were great.....beautiful too. Then I went back to teaching hairy-arsed firemen who thought the course book was something you torched and threw at people...such was my lot in 3 years at QP.

I'm actually looking forward to the segregated environment...lol. In the freshman and sophomore classes I taught over this past year, there was a bit too much "warfare." A few girls would "like" the same guy (lots of athletes in my classes, for some reason--baseball and football players), and boy, did that make the air frigid. Especially when the guy would start going out with one of them. For some reason, this never occurred vice versa....I did end up with some very interesting compositions (both textual and digital) due to the above Smile.

I liked it when female students had a crush on me! I'm talking about the college level in the States with 30-year-old Chinese and Vietnamese. Wink Uhm...when I was younger, I mean. Sad

Ha ha, well unlike da boss (to your left) I still have all my hair and it's not colored, but bouncers don't ask for my ID anymore. But when I was 57 people thought I was 47, and when 47 I was assumed to be 37, etc. etc...but it's all caught up with me now.
