Which schools are sponsoring visas to new teachers from overseas?

I am finding most are only accepting teachers already in Japan.

JET program (not a school)
GEOS (under new management, G.communications)
NOVA (under the same new management)
ECC
AEON
ALTIA
Peppy Kids Club
Language House
David English House
James English School
Berlitz
Shane/Saxoncourt (dispatcher)
Westgate Corporation (not a school per se)

*Not entirely sure about GEOS and NOVA anymore.

and perhaps a handful more, but I have not gotten any other names in the last 12 years, so if someone else pipes up with "yes, there are more", please name names. Thanks.

I have applied to several of those schools and they emailed me that they are NOT sponsoring visas at this point in time. Only accepting teachers with visas and already in Japan. That is why I posted this thread.

I don't suppose you could be helpful yourself and say WHICH ones told you they weren't sponsoring visas?

Sandy,
As a general rule, all of those places have sponsored visas from overseas.

They have their own recruiting schedules, of course, so that explains in part why they are not taking applications at the moment. Another reason is the glut of teachers in Japan right now. They still sponsor visas, but they just don't have openings right now.

You might at least have said "thank you".

As Bread wrote, who did you contact?

All ready had that list of schools.

Applied to all of them and more besides.

I thought those in Japan might know of some schools that don't advertise on the many sites I am looking at or signed up for.

I am signed up with tons of teacher sites and spend 8 to 12 hours a day - sending out applications - I am getting some responses - so far Japan has said they are not sponsoring visas from out of country.

I will keep applying however.

I agree - lots of competition out there - I am being told that by recruiters and schools. They agree I am well qualified - just a matter of time before I get a response of a positive one from Japan.

Does that mean you don't have to say thank you?

That's not what you wrote before, so I'll just assume you added more to your mailing list since you first wrote. Otherwise it's contradictory.

Me, too. To be honest, I've tried collecting a lot of information like what you are asking over the past 13 years. Those are the only names that come up on half a dozen forums (outside of any PMs that I'm not privy to, that is). I constantly ask for company names whenever I see someone jump down my throat and say "Hey, there's more!" or "C'mon, I know of another place...!" But nobody ever provides a name. If you get one, please let me know.

That's the only real way to do it whether you are here in Japan or not. Gotta work the percentages. As with any other job, you won't get a huge response, but it's a numbers game.

Not sponsoring a visa, or not interviewing unless you are here? Plenty of places sponsor visas. Not all places that hire even within Japan will do it, though.

One thing to consider, especially if you feel you are truly qualified beyond a vanilla degree and native English nationality: have someone look at your resume and cover letter. Fresh eyes may spot things you didn't.

Since you seem to be in China, it might have more to do with that. The big companies do face-to-face interviews, but not in China. And other companies usually take people in-country first, and if they want somebody from overseas they might prefer someone in an English-speaking country to someone in China.

And I know several people who have come over in the past year with multiple companies on that list. Just because they didn't hire YOU doesn't mean they aren't sponsoring visas.

I wouldn't mind seeing a list of these "other companies" as well. If you have already applied to them and have faced rejection, which all of us have, then there is no harm in being prude with that information. It would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I don't mean anything negative by saying prude towards you or any other user. Thought I should clarify that before some one takes it the wrong way. Just being figurative~
