The job situation hasn't changed that much in all the years I have been here. There are still plenty of vacancies out there.... and plenty of people applying to fill them. Unfortunately, for each job vacancy, at least 80% of applicants will be rejected because they are just not qualified. Many of the others fall by the wayside either because they lose interest, or because they cannot meet the increasingly stringent paper requirements set by the Indonesian government.
Please don't bombard me with loads of examples of people who have got a job without first degrees, teaching certificates etc., etc. We all know that happens.... enough has been said about it on this board. However, it is getting more and more difficult these days.
Back to the OP: She should have no difficulties getting a job in Indonesia with her qualifications!
A certain poster seems to have taken on the mantle of 'Mr Doom and Despondency'. We've had plenty of those over the years, haven't we? But still we, the majority of posters, go on, giving out good relevant advice if and when we can..... Which is what this board is all about. |

Re: getting out of major cities. This isn't actually difficult so long as you have either time or money, or preferably both. The problem with some jobs like at EF Swara is that you have to work quite a few Saturday mornings and apart from that most of your time off will be public holidays when travel is particularly difficult. If you can get some holiday time during weekdays then travel is a breeze.
Phis, it has always surprised me how many people will apply for teaching jobs who are not qualified at all. I don't have much experience of many other lines of work, but I'm pretty sure that if you apply for a job as a nurse or an electrical installations inspector you will have to provide qualifications too. |

Thank you all again for being so encouraging and helpful! I am so looking forward to it now!
I've been thinking Bandung or Malang might be the places for me; having said that, I'm most keen to find the right school, so I would be flexible.
My final question is this: when should I start applying? I'm desperate to do it now, but I don't finish my TEFL until mid-August, and I can't leave my job here until Jan 2011.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
Oh and also, has anyone else noticed problems with the TBI website? I can't access it at all!
Once again thank you all! Maybe our paths will cross next year
