aeh,
I am a bit confused by your argument. What exactly are you trying to say?

Just that it might be wise to remember that while people who are unhappy may come to a forum to vent their anger, people who are happy perhaps don't feel the same need. I know Swara has its problems but while there are disgruntled ex-employees, there are also those who had a very happy time working for the schools

Were you registered for tax and was it a condition that you left a deposit for a trip overseas?

The deposit thing was true as I took a trip overseas, the tax thing, I don't know. I was young and naive and didn't question it! I was never given anything but then again I never asked for it. I certainly never had any trouble getting my passport back from them after they'd done whatever with it.

aeh,
Very valid and fair what you say. Look at many of the other chain schools and it is just blips on the radar. Swara always have a stream of activity. Why? The problem is EF Swara is always saying they are not a bad organization. A majority of their teachers stay a year and most walk away with a feeling of being used. Turnover is the main indication of job quality and satisfaction. 25% is high and we know it is over 60% with them. Look at the comments from the DOS's from YEARS ago saying that it is getting better, we do not treat people like that anymore. But as we can see, they still do. Look at the NPWP thing. total silence. I am sure once the tax office comes to visit them it wont be so quiet. Anyway, good on you to stand up and ask for something different, but there bad name preceded your commendable effort.

Nobody I know had a bad year working for Swara-and they make it clear at the outset via Gusti what you'll be getting financially. The problem is that salaries/rates of pay aren't widely 'shared' within the teaching community here so when Gusti tells you the pay is 7.5 per month [maybe a mill or two more now] what do you have to compare it with? Just going back to EF paying the 'standard rate' for any class that you teach, here's an example of how they are profiteering from teachers ignorance. Last year the Nat + school that I worked at approached the Pondok Indah EF [nothing to do with Swara this one..] and asked them for a quote on supplying an IBT TOEFL teacher per class. EF Pondok Indah were asking for 750.000 per class + transportation money from the school. Eventually I taught this program as 'over-time' making 400.000 per 90 minute class. What would the EF sap have been payed? At eighty thou per hour he would have recieved 120 for his troubles....and remember that 'outsourcing' their employees-to private companies/schools is a process that EF are developing and encouraging.

yeah they would get a lot more crediblity if they did that. but they fear the wrath of mas gusti and agus and mustika. too bad that they both have forgotten that a DOS primary responsibility is to take care of the teachers............. help them become more porfessional, make sure that they are treated well, make sure the have the proper visas (hello chris), and the contracts are honored, stand up for the well being of the teachers, ensure quality instruction is given to students, and be a conduit for 2 way communication for the teachers and management. unfortunately, seems like they have sold their souls to the devil for a measly 14-18 million. yes, they ight give a few workshops, but in reality they are only yes men for the management and cheerleaders here on dave's and other boards. they should stand up and put their jobs on the line to ensure the teachers are treated properly and should refuse to schedule any teacher that is not completely legal................ visa and nwpw.
