Veiled Sentiments, you mentioned that it could be difficult to find good university jobs in the UAE without an MA in TESOL/ Applied linguistic. I'm thinking of starting in Oman, (if I can get a job there) and doing an MATESOL by distance (part time) while there- do you think this would increase my chances in the UAE? |
Sorry I missed your question yesterday. Would it increase your chances? Probably. The real question is whether it is worth your time and effort to do one. That depends a lot on your age, whether you plan to stay in EFL, and how long you want to spend in the Gulf.
I can't recall if you have a CELTA. Adding a CELTA - which can be done in a month full time - plus 2-3 years of Middle East experience may be just as good. Supply and demand decides the value of your unrelated MA.

Yeah, I do have CELTA.
Do you think it's a little early to start applying now for the January intake? say, at Nizwa in Oman, and HCT in the UAE? |

If they are advertising for it, now is fine. But, if they are not, I'd probably wait until after the Eid. That is the holiday after Ramadhan in case you don't know. Right now HR is totally focused on the new teachers coming in August. Only the bare minimum gets done during Ramadhan/Eid, so no sense letting your file disappear before they even start looking.
I would apply mid-September.
