I know there was a topic on this before, searched for it, but couldn't find it.
If you see a doctor outside of Japan and want to get reimbursed, what documents do you need/what's the process? |

Because there are only two parts of the world, Japan and Outside of Japan, all you need is the Outside of Japan special ID and OJHI card (Outside of Japan Health Insurance).
Good luck! |

Really?
I'm pretty sure that I read that you could get reimbursed for essential health treatment on return, too.
Something like you needed a receipt with the full breakdown of the total for the treatment and a doctor's explanation note detailing symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, then if you took that to the yakusho you might be able to get partial reimbursement.
But of course that doesn't mean you shouldn't travel without travel insurance as well, since they will pay for the big bills up front should you have a serious accident. Plus travel insurance will cover damage/loss of property, too. |

You make all the payments outside of Japan, then bring back receipts and translations of treatment to your ward office or city hall and file for reimbursement. You should get back the 70% that would have been paid in Japan had the equivalent work been done here. Note that only the treatments allowed in Japan are going to be reimbursed.
Ask your ward office for the proper forms.
