Hi all,

I want to start using articles from the internet for reading/discussion in a few of my classes.
Aside from Metropolis and The Japan Times, are there any specific web-sites you can recommend for good articles?
I need something for beginner/intermediate students that will introduce some new vocabulary, but not be too long or too deep to discuss.
Thanks for any ideas Wink

Breading News English:

If the current stories are too difficult for your students, lessons were produced at "easier" and "harder" levels between Apr 2005 and Aug 2006. Check the pre Aug. 2006 easier lessons for your use.

Newspapers for beginner students? I think you either have fantastic beginners or you overestimate their ability. How old are they?

What did you expect them to get out of the reading? Simple regurgitation of facts? (not recommended) Or some kind of critical thinking/analysis? (better but still very difficult to teach) Cultural awareness? (go to things like Dear Abby columns, but be aware of problems with slang and jargon)

Yes, you mentioned 2 newspapers, actually. Were you thinking that "articles" means research reports (journal articles) or something else? Magazine articles? Please help us to understand here just what it is you want.

Genre would be nice to know. So would length of the "articles".
