I still have to get my blood work (which I will do tomorrow) Results take 2-3 days.

I live in San Antonio, so I have to drive out to Houston to to the chinese embassy. Get pictures, appostilize, pictursd etc. whatver!??!

I'm sorry, I'm getting a little worried.

We're in about the same boat. My physical will be ready on Monday and I'll use a Visa agent in Houston.

I plan to leave mid-Aug and there is plenty of time, but I'm not wasting any. If you have to be there Sept 1 you should have no problems, but stay on it.

What are you having Apostillized? I didn't have to apostillize anything for China.

Do you already have your invitation letter? Should be plenty of time.

What does "appostilize" even mean? Is that a real word?

From French "apostille", a marginal annotation or note.

Its like Notarizing, but higher up. A gov't official certifies that a document is authentic, usually done by the Sec. of State within the State issuing the document, and usually intended for Int'l consumption.

Some countries require docs to be apostilled, such as diplomas, transcripts etc. China does not require this.

The authentication requirement was eliminated sometime before November 2004 when China signed onto the Hague Agreement which covered all sorts of things that included the acceptance of foreign documents issued by local authorities.

Those who will use a visa courier service may be able to complete the process within a week to ten days provided that the rest of the paperwork is done properly.

I've done it myself, though I don't recommend waiting until the last minute because things tend to go wrong when one is short on time.

Yes, you have a very good chance. Stay on it. Don't be afraid to bug them. Three weeks is plenty of time; that sounds like famous last words, but once it gets through the bureaucratic "debris", it's very quick.

While most schools begin September 1st, keep in mind that you may be "teaching" Freshman students and their classes begin later because of the military training.

Some Freshman begin 9/15. I once worked at a school where Freshman classes didn't begin until after the National Day holiday.

The problem is that my flight leaves on the 25th (honestly, it was amazingly cheap and I took my chances, but the school was sluggish with getting the process tarted, should've happened at least 3, 4 days sooner.)

To change my flight, it would cost 534 dollars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO WAY !!!!

I'm prayinggggggggg

You should have enough time. The invitation letter can be obtained within five working days by the school. You should be able to receive it within four days thereafter by express mail. Once they mail the package, you can trace it on the internet right up to arrival. Make sure that they use express courier and send you the tracking reference number. If they say that it is too expensive, tell them that you will reimburse payment when you arrive at the school. It will only be around 200 to 300 rmb (they may send it express courier anyway so see if they will pay before you offer).

In the meantime, make sure all arrangements at your end are in place including medical check if necessary.
