I finished the CELTA course last spring, have been doing some volunteer ESL work in my hometown, but now I'm ready to move on. I've been looking through the job listings provided by my CELTA trainers, and I turned up a posting from an organization called NetsChina. Here's their website:

http://www.netschina.co.uk/about.html

I haven't been able to find much information from outside sources, so I just wanted to ask if anyone has any experience with them, make sure they're legit, etc. They've already responded with a list of current vacancies, so I may ask about a few of those later once I know everything is on the up-and-up. I've been to China once before for a brief visit, but this will be my first time doing the ESL thing, so I'm a bit nervous about getting things set up. :p

Basically a recruiting service apparantly run by foreigners.

Find a job you like and then see what the offer is like and as you start to ask questions you will soon see if they are swindlers or not.

Thanks for the advice. I expressed interest in the listings they provided (mostly around Shanghai/Jiangsu), but first asked if they might have something available in Xi'an or Tianjin since I have friends in those areas. They replied that nothing is currently available, but that I should send them scans of my passport, CELTA certificate, a photo, and letter of recommendation in the meantime to get things moving. Does this all sound like fairly standard procedure? I haven't even actually picked a specific offer yet.

Recruiters seemed to be psyched to obtain everything up front, even if they haven't a specific job lined up for you.

In fairness if you've yourself broadcasted to potential employees the recruiter can line you up with something your interested in. (that's to say they are legit).

Just once they don't ask you for money !

As a precaution, when you scan your passport page blank out the passport number.

Okay, blank out passport number, and run for the hills the moment they start asking for money. Alright, let's see how this goes. Thanks, everybody. Laughing
