I've been offered a position at Commercial Vocational School that's in a satellite city of one of the major cities. From my research on the net the city seems quite livable and so I'm seriously considering the offer. However, the hours seem to be a bit out-of-whack with the salary i.e. "25hours teaching/week, 20 hours for business, plus 5 hours ESL teaching. The salary will be 7000rmb/month". Accommodation is included and from the photos I've seen it's very acceptable. With that kind of teaching load and curriculum development extra teaching hours might be a bit tough. Any thoughts? |

You are teaching business for 20 hours a week and ESL for 5 hours a week ?
Twice as many hours as many University jobs.
Salary seems very low.
A satellite city could be an hour or two away from the major city.
Not a fun bus ride. |

Generally, an hour at a uni is actually an academic hour of 40-45 mins. Find out. (2ach of 40 minutes with a 10 minute break in between is lovely)
You may also be teaching 10 classes business english 2 hours a week each. So quite boring, but little lesson planning to do. It could be the same for ESL for 5 classes, one hour. Or 2 classes 10 hours a week each. Nightmare scenario. Find out.
Overall the hours seem high for a uni, though. |
