'To sell yourself'. A peeve. To me this only means to prostitute yourself, and not market yourself at a job interview. Oh... hang on.... same thing maybe...
Still a peeve. |

That's because you live in an aberrant society which has repeatedly betrayed the ideals of our great teachers. Come to the Workers' Paradise and watch all the Youtube you like! |

Comrade, we can arrange a stealthy defection for you. One of my operatives will be in touch with you shortly. Probably arrange a meeting in that square where nothing whatsoever happened in 1989... |

Re Youtube, isn't there some way to get round the Great Firewall of China? My fellow travellers in Turkey manage to circumvent the Youtube ban there. |

OK, I think the best thing to do is to have a radio transmitter dropped over to you. Then you can pass on dangerous secrets and commit other acts of subversion. That way, we'll know that you are one of us and we can extract you to safety once your loyalty has been established. |

Never heard the term, thought it might have something to do with manifest destiny. Garbage. |

Dear johntpartee,
Indeed I am back - back from "The Road Trip from Hell." My stepdaughter got a job teaching music for the Department of Defense at Fort Campbell in Clarksville TN, but her car couldn't pull a U-Haul. My car wasn't (theoretically) much better, a 2005 Honda Civic,) but it's in a lot better shape than her Chevy Cavalier, so I got a tow bar installed and off we went on the 1,250 mile jaunt.
Well, I couldn't use the air since I was already putting a pretty good strain on the engine, so I went across NM, OK, TX, AR, and TN, temps often 100, humidity often close to that, in two days driving. Then, of course, when we arrived, well, everything had to be unloaded, of course. I don't think I've been quite so exhausted since I ran the Boston Marathon way back in '63.
Speaking of Boston, since I was in the neighborhood, I figured I might as well drop in on my sister and family in Boston. So, I drove to Nashville TN, hopped on a flight, and spent a few days in the city of my birth.
Then, back on a plane to Nashville, picked up the car, drove back to Clarksville, stayed the night, and started back to Santa Fe on Saturday morn.
I arrived back home about 1 p.m. yesterday; the trip back, without the U-Haul and with air-conditioning, was much more pleasant.
Round trip (excluding. of course, the flight to and from Boston) about 2,600 miles.
And I alone am left to tell the tale.
Regards,
John. |
