Then, yesterday, I got an amazing job offer in Mexico, and I am going to take it.

I'll give you some advice and it will be constructive.

Really investigate the offer on the table, the background of the company or instititution, and how professional you make them out to be. It's easy to throw very attractive offers out there, especially to people who are in a different country and aren't there to double check the reality. This person could say $3,000 US a month plus housing and a car, but if he or she hasn't got character then there's nothing to the offer.

Yes, I have to second that advice. I live in Mexico, and there really aren't a lot of what I would consider amazing offers here. Save yourself hassle and heartache and check out the company. You say your papers are in order. If you just got the offer how is that possible? Not trying to be negative, but cautious. People come here all the time and only want positive advice, but sometimes negative advice turns out to be far more positive in the long run than rose-colored glasses advice.

Third the above...

Assuming the offer is good and you come, pack extra shaving cream (good stuff is expensive here), any colognes you like, and do bring a laptop.

the school is the irish institute of monterrey. I have been in talks with them for a couple months, but I only accepted the job yesterday....sorry, should have clarified!

The name doesn't mean anything to me, but I'm not in Monterrey.

If you've been in talks for months, you should have had time to get a read on your contacts there. It could be a good deal, but like TeresaLopez said, I've never really heard of an amazing deal in Mexico. On second thought, I have heard of them at first and they've never been what the person hoped for them to be (me included!)

Well, three people who have been here for at least a little while have said what they need to say. If you don't have any specific questions, take our comments for what they are.

An amazing job offer?? Be VERY careful when a school tells you something here in Mexico. They don't tell you everything. Things like they don't pay on time or they only pay you 50% of what they owe you. Little things like that.
Have a backup plan and bring some cash with you. Be careful here.

Have you arrived? Let us know how it's working out...Monterrey has been in the news a lot the last several weeks.

Yes, be very careful, because, of course, ALL Mexicans and dishonest and just waiting to screw you!

This may prove to be a great place to work but I would have been put off- enough not to bother to apply- by the notice, in the tiniest of print, at the bottom of their home page, that they are an outreach/mission of the "Legions of Christ". A lot has been written about this organization, for those who would like to look further.
